I start this address today with this statement that I normally finish my addresses with for a very good reason. I have heard rumors of discontent within our great government. I wanted to take a moment to say that things are constantly changing, but not our responsibilities. Each of us is guided by our own convictions -- and to these we must stay faithful. Yet we're all held to the same standards, and called to serve the same good purposes: to extend the New Republic's prosperity; to spend credits wisely; to solve problems; to guard against all evil; and to keep faith with those we send forth to lead and defend us.

Just over one year ago, we embarked on a difficult and arduous journey to bring freedom from tyranny to this galaxy. Choosing democracy as the tool to accomplish this goal, we knew from the beginning that it would not be easy and that we would have many obstacles along the way. We have actually faced more hardship than any normal government would be expected to face and we have overcome. We must continue to define ourselves at a time that decisions are hard and courage is needed. In all of this, much is asked of us. We must have the will to face difficult challenges and determined enemies -- and the wisdom to face them together. I have absolutely no doubt that we can accomplish this and that makes me proud to say that I am a citizen of the New Republic and to report that the current state of the New Republic is strong.

Efforts to increase production in all areas are still underway. Our B-wings are now in the final stages of shakedown and on their way to the Battlegroups. This will allow our military leaders to focus on the growth of our military assets instead of recovery as we have for the last five months. A new shipyard complex is under construction at Praesitlyn and our northern freighter production is, as Minister Traner said, "Getting hot!"

We have seen significant progress in the talks regarding the Galactic Alliance (GA) and I hope to see two more governments joining the GA in the very near future. Diplomacy Command has expanded its staff to keep up with the growing demand of groups wanting to talk to us in regards to treaties and alliances. Congratulations to the new diplomats; Qui-Gon Gwynne, Arcant Renatus, and apprentice diplomat Chon Largo. I would like to remind our citizens that if someone comes looking for a diplomat to speak with, the list of our diplomats can be found on the Republic Diplomacy Corps holonet.
