Hailing from the Hapes Cluster, Anton Zadok is the son of Hapan merchants who traded between the various worlds in the cluster. While not among Hapes' wealthy elite, the Zadok family had a slight reputation for reliability in trade activities. With a spacefaring family, Anton Zadok learned to navigate the space lanes at a young age, quickly becoming a logistical supervisor for the family business.

Despite many years of space travel, Anton never had left the Hapes Cluster as no business deals were made with the larger galaxy. He had grown up watching the holonet reports of wars and conflicts in the galaxy that never seemed to reach Hapes. Every request to leave the Cluster on a family vessel had been denied, owing to the isolationist idealism of his parents. Thus Anton's life continued in the confines of the Hapes Cluster.

This peaceful existence was shattered when a distress call was heard from a nearby Zadok family freighter. Being close to the site, Anton directed his ship to the scene. Arriving before other vessels, Anton saw a small gunship, pirates had attacked the ship. Shortly afterwards, the pirates managed to escape with the cargo before any law enforcement could arrive.

Spurred by this event and sensing the call of adventure, Anton decided to leave the family home. He purchased an old starfighter and set course for Rodia and the New Republic Academy.
