Basic Ribbons

These ribbons are worn in some form by all officers who have commenced active duty. All officers have a similar first (bottom) row of ribbons. In this bottom row, the right ribbon indicates that the officer has qualified for a commission. The middle ribbon indicates the officer's military command or the civilian ribbon. The left ribbon indicates the length of service of military service of the officer and is replaced when the officer qualifies for a new one. Once an officer leaves the military, his or her ribbons remain static and are not updated with additional years of service or skills.
