State of the Republic - October 2008

As Edhrikhor finishes the backward somersault while blocking the last volley of blaster bolts from the six training drones, he reaches out and uses the force to flip the switch that will end this lightsaber deflection training session. He then extinguishes his two lightsabers and clips them to his belt. Looking over at his mentor, he says, Master Akim, I really need to take a break and review all the information that I have to prepare for this month's State of the Republic address. I was so involved in your training regime last month that I lost track of time and didn't even do one.
As long as you stop calling me Master Akim, Uzziah replies. We were friends long before either one of us knew we were force sensitive and you are a Jedi Knight now that you have completed your Knight Trials. You don't have to be so formal with me, Edh. In a lot of ways, you have passed me in your training and I feel that you have the knowledge and wisdom to be a Master so I consider you my equal. There is really little else that I can teach you.
Thank you, Master Uzziah, Edhrikhor stumbles out the words. That means a lot to me. I just am not sure if becoming a Master is what the force has in store for me. The New Republic means too much to me and I just can't leave to join the Order. I have to see what I started through to the end. Vodo must be defeated.
Uzziah looks down at the deck plates of the mezzanine level of the Lictor class Dungeon ship, Final Solution, while he considers his answer. Edh, the future is clouded. The Sith are moving and preparing and we must be ready. Be mindful of the Force and continue to meditate on what it wants from you. Now go and prepare your address.
Edhrikhor nods his head towards Uzziah and then turns and walks away. Once he reaches his chambers, he uses the refresher and changes into some clean clothes. Settling into his desk, he spends several hours reviewing the information that the Advisory Council had sent him as well as the different news services. Once he is ready, he again changes, but this time into his formal robes. Activating the communications array, Edhrikhor begins his address and when he finishes, he presses send.
Fellow citizens of our great New Republic, I stand before you today proud of what we have accomplished. I know it has been tough and we have faced rough times, but we will see it through. Our goal of freeing the galaxy from tyranny is progressing. We have worked for months to expand the Galactic Alliance (GA) and I am pleased to point to the recent press release on the GNS that the Red Star Alliance (RSA) and the Triumvirate Coalition (TC) have joined the Falleen Federation and New Republic as Galactic Alliance members. The inclusion of Jedi Order representation to the Galactic Alliance should also be decided on within the next few days. If you look back to my address from February, you will see that I mentioned that several Advisory Council members and I were attending a diplomatic conference. The addition of RSA and TC to the GA began then. While some will say that this is a knee-jerk reaction to the Trade Federation joining the Imperial Union, I can tell you that it is not. We have been working on this for a long time and we wanted to ensure that we did it right. All parties are satisfied with the treaty as it is now written and are looking forward to working together to bring freedom to all sentients.
I also wanted to announce that we will be taking a more active stance against pirates and criminals. Our focus has always been on the war between us and the Imperials, but we have been targeted recently by these outlaw groups and we can no longer stand by as they continue to think that we are an easy mark. While we will not go to war with these groups, we will be looking for opportunities to apprehend their members and bring them to justice. This change of ideology within the NR did not start with the Black Sun incident or even with Eidola, but with another group and incident that most of you are not even aware of. An independent and neutral mining group, LankCo Mining Concern came to us with a request for help in the Brak sector against the Black Nebula pirates. After the Advisory Council agreed, I went to the Senate for permission to move against them. While the Senate was discussing it, we received word that Black Nebula had murdered a New Republic citizen. Once that information was confirmed, I went back and updated the Senate. The Senate very quickly agreed to allow the military to perform policing actionsâ against Black Nebula and in support of LankCo. Our military quickly dispatched a force to Brak and the latest information I have is that LankCo has been able to secure all their holdings in that sector. We will not look the other way when those not able to defend themselves are preyed upon.

I am going to have to shorten the rest of this address as I have just been informed that we will need to enter hyperspace in the next few moments.
News from Diplomacy Command includes a PSA with Baobab Merchant Fleet and Freitek, Incorporated, lobbying the Senate for a Black Sun Trade Ban, successful lobbying of the Senate for GNS Procedures, assistance with recent Toskan Industries and Astralwerks Engineering incidents, negotiations with BlasTech Corporation, negotiated release of Mining Droids to the market and acquired a significant amount of them at a low price, and the successful completion mediation between two friendly groups (Cybot Galactica and TAR).
I have not received all the reports from the military branches, but I have been informed that the last of the B-wings have been deployed to the Battlegroups and all squadrons of all fighter types have been commissioned and named.
I am very pleased to report that construction on a new tax planet is well underway there are two more in the planning / preparation stages. The New Republic is continuing to expand its economic base. Juganoth Mining has been working very hard to keep up with the demand and has significantly increased the infrastructure at Republica. They are expecting to have a new Depot there in the very near future.
