State of the Republic - January 2008

Fellow citizens of the New Republic, I am proud to report that the New Republic today is stronger than we were four weeks ago and we are moving forward. After so long a period of not knowing what was going to happen next and being bound by fear and paranoia, we now have a vision and a plan for the future.

Republic Diplomacy Command (RDC) has been hard at work in talking to other groups and governments to strengthen our ties and increase the number of our allies. After the passing of the Private Sector Act, we now have three new businesses with which we are officially affiliated; Arkanian Enterprises, Talost Nightwatch, and Saikutsu. My most hearty welcome goes to each of these businesses. The New Republic has also updated our Non-Aggression Pacts with the Corporate Sector Authority and the Confederacy of Independent Systems. Finally, hand in hand with RDC submitting a foreign relations policy to the Senate, we have agreed to an operational improvement in regards to our Galactic Alliance partner, the Falleen Federation. With unanimous support of the Advisory Council (AC) and Senate, we have given ownership of a classified number of Mon Calamari cruisers to the Falleen Federation.

We have also made great strides in replacing our lost fighters and at the same time preparing for the future. Most of the currently built X-wings are either now in service, enroute to their assigned Battlegroups, or in the final testing and shakedown stages. The next step in that process is the A-wings and those are fairly well into production. Within the next few months, we will not only have replaced, but we will have exceeded our fighter capacity. This speaks volumes for the capability of our production departments in times of emergency.

Another item that is a very positive step towards a secure financial future is the regaining of all our assets on the under construction tax planet Akrit`tar. With the betrayal by the leader of Republic Mining, we lost a lot of those assets as well as a lot of territory in Calaron. I am very happy to announce that after regaining the assets on the planet Akrit`tar, construction has recommenced. Due to the dedicated efforts of our officers and allies, we are also slowly retaking control of the other planets in the sector.

If you have taken any time to visit the Senate Hall, you will see that the Senate has been hard at work to take care of finalizing those bills that have been in the Senate Chambers for some time. The two main bills that I am excited to have seen passed are the New Republic wage increase and the Governors Act. These two bills will give you, the citizens, the opportunity to reinvest in the New Republic.

I am also very happy to report to you that the AC and Senate are working on ways to improve communication with each other and with the general public. This communication is of paramount importance in our ability to move forward. I am also ecstatic with the launch of the Republic News Network (RNN). With so much going on in our government and with our nationalized businesses, the RNN will be an outlet that will let everyone know what is going on in our different departments.

I hope that you, as citizens, can see the benefit of what we have been able to accomplish in the last four weeks and I also hope that you are encouraged that we will continue this positive move forward.
