In the first installment of the Republic News Network's Spotlight series, today we celebrate miner extraordinaire Jim Frost, Head of the Arkanis System Depot for JUGANOTH Mining Corporation.
A hard working and loyal Sullustan who joined JMC when he was "young and foolish," Frost began his service as a member of Sorosuub Corporation before becoming an integral part of the mining arm of the New Republic, striving to serve his customers and his government to the best of his ability. He attributes his exceptional work ethic to Owyn Darklighter, his mentor and the man who Frost claims saw his potential and challenged him to attain greatness.
Frost’s dedication to his job has led to his receiving the Republic Service Medal, the Miner's Bronze Award, and the Prospector Excellence Award. And while he is not one to tout his own accomplishments, preferring to stay out of the limelight, his efforts have not gone unnoticed by the New Republic populace. This can be best illustrated by his being awarded the very first New Republican of the Month award, as voted on by his peers. Beyond the mines of Arkanis and Sullust, Frost has also been a participant in military operations and has received the Forging Freedom Ribbon and the Joint Operation Ribbon.
Humble and willing to help others, Frost has served as a mentor to many, viewing JMC as not just a community but a family. When asked what advice he had for fresh-faced miners he stressed becoming part of that family and simply enjoying oneself, "Being a part of JMC is more than just mining. […] Get to know your co-workers, not just by name, but find out who they are, have a drink with them or have a meal with them." He also recognized the importance of trying new things, and always communicating when you needed a change of pace, "If you don't like your job, let your boss know and they can probably transfer you to doing something else that you would enjoy."
Other than his role as a member of the JMC old guard, helping to usher in a new generation of miners, it's impossible to discuss mining in the New Republic without the name 'Jim Frost' immediately coming to mind. Serving as a fundamental cog to the New Republic machine, we asked Frost to describe his work:
“My job is to make sure everyone who orders RMs from JMC gets their orders fill as quickly as possible. That includes filling warehouses with their orders as well as making sure that we are mining any materials that we are short on. While my job is mainly logistical, I do enjoy seeing our satisfied customers. My role in the NR is to make sure that we have enough materials for all the projects going on. That includes military shipbuilding and weapons making, but also include things like housing projects and that new tavern being built next to your flats. One of the things I am most proud of is helping the various medical factions in their efforts to heal the sick. I also am motivated by the fact that for every unit of Meleenium I mine, I am helping to ensure freedom for sentients across the galaxy.”
A self-described introvert, Frost prefers to relax by watching holovids, especially old ones, and hanging out with friends at the local tavern. He also spends his spare time studying computers, and hopes to one day switch careers to computer research. Still, regardless of his career path and what may lay ahead in Frost's future, we can all agree that the New Republic is exceptionally fortunate to call this hard-working sentient one of our own.
