Part of the Academy fleet, this ship was used by the Rebel Alliance for training of the Navy cadets. This ship was subesequently employed in several battle theatres. As the Navy CO High Admiral Josh Jericho said, "The Kracken would be a perfect addition to the museum. She has a history older than me."
The Kracken changed ship prefix three times: RTG (Republica Training Group), RANS (Rebel Alliance Navy's Ship), and eventually NRS (New Republic Ship). When serving in Republica as "RTG Kracken", it was also known as "The Cadet Graveyard" because of a sad episode. A cadet met his fatal end after a long period in vegetative state. It was never been ascertained whether the death was caused by euthanasia or natural passing out, and some spread the rumor to scare the cadets that there was a killer onboard. One of the cadets of that time, Mott Skyblade, remembered clearly the mass panic that broke out, and the screams at night of the cadets who were continuously and anxiously asking and yelling "Why did he die?" and "What killed him?"
Worth of note is also the Kracken bar. It served as a lounge for recruits. The bar is rather small, as one would expect in a blockade runner like the Kracken. There are a few booths and a three meter bar with a small assortment of alcohol from around the galaxy, although you do notice that goods from Imperial planets have been specifically boycotted. Although you suspect that with a nice tip to the bartender you can get some of that stormtrooper's rum smuggled in from Carida. Occassionally you'll find a veteran or so here, but they're generally only interested in the female recruits. Mostly the place is left for the recruits to run. The music consists of a juke box that reverts to a random selection of Ewok Jives if no one purchases a few songs, thus ensuring a steady flow of income as people try to play everything but...
Several riots happened at the Kracken Bar, the one where all the cadets met in their free time. The bar was restructured three times due to the heavy damages. Actually, someone noticed that it could not be a mere coincidence that the ship has changed name prefix the same amount of times she had the bar remade.
The NRS Kracken has been the very first ship to enter the Galactic Museum docking bays.
