Jump to: navigation, search

1. Any person accused of a crime no greater than a Class IV offense, may post a bond equal to the maximum possible fine that they may receive, instead of being arrested and incarcerated. They may also post the bond after arrest or incarceration, and are to be released immediately following the receipt of the bond. The credits should be sent to the New Republic with a message explicitly stating their purpose. A simultaneous message should be sent to the Chief of State, the Director of New Republic Intelligence, and the head of the judiciary informing them that the bond has been posted.

2. If the accused is found guilty, the fine is to be taken from the bond, and the head of the judiciary will return the remainder, if any, in a timely manner to the accused.

3. If the accused is found innocent, the bond is to be returned by the head of the judiciary to the accused in a timely manner.

4. If the accused flees from the New Republic or refuses to participate in the trial, the defense counsel appointed by the State will take over the defense and the trial will proceed as usual.

5. If the accused refuses to post bond, the accused may be arrested and detained for the duration of the trial.
