Introduction

Late in the year 7, members of Rebel Alliance High Command and SoroSuub Corporation Middle Management began to discuss the possibility of a merger between the two groups, realizing that the combination of the Alliance's military might and SoroSuub's economic prosperity would give the Galactic Alliance the greatest chance of defeating the Empire. Delegates from the Rebel Alliance, such as Phymp Mindano, Nim Orlan, and David Kellar, and delegates from SoroSuub, including Adam A Flynn, and Maradin Sandwalker had a conference where they set out the initial plans for a new government, which they called the New Republic. Using the Old Republic's Constitution as a model, they began writing a new Constitution for the new government.

When the leaders of each group announced the potential merger to the members of their factions, there were mixed reactions. Some agreed that the joining of the two groups would create a powerful new government. Others did not care for the idea, arguing that they were proud to be a member of their current group, under their current name. In order to get an official measure of how many people were for the merger, or against it, both sides held a poll. Both the Rebel Alliance members and SoroSuub members had a majority vote, 'Aye' in favor of the merger.

Once both sides had officially approved the merger, the completed Constitution was presented to the public for approval. A referendum vote was held, and the New Republic's Constitution was ratified on Year 8, Day 98. The day became known as Restoration Day, a celebration of the restoration of the Old Republic.

Formation of the Republic

With the Constitution ratified and the New Republic officially formed, the various departments of the NR began merging. SoroSuub logistics, which had been housed in SoroSuub Munitions moved into Corellian Transport Services, under the leadership of SSC Logistics Director Van Harrad, and CTS Director and Assistant Director Azzi Blackgate, and Kit Lorcan. Liberty Medical Center and Riviera Medical merged together into Republic Medical, under the leadership of Miko Niepe. Members of the SoroSuub military were transferred into Alliance battlegroups, and the various nationalized companies of the Republic began to collaborate on production, mining, and construction projects.

However, with all the merging came some problems. Former members of the RA and SSC began to disagree on how things should be run, and there were times of tension in the beginning. Over time, the problems were solved and the two groups unified, to form a strong Republic, with similar ideals and the goal to defeat the Empire.

During this time, the first NR Advisory Council was formed. Initial plans had SoroSuub's Chancellor Adam A Flynn serving as Minister of State, with the members of SoroSuub's Middle Management team filling the roles of civil Advisory Council members. The Rebel Alliance's High Command members would fill the military Advisory Council posts. However, just after the merger, the co-leaders of SoroSuub, Adam A Flynn, and Ingo R Vailis resigned their positions and decided to leave the Republic. They had each been in leadership positions for years, and as such had grown weary.

Chief of State Elections

With the Advisory Council positions filling in, the need to elect the Republic's first Chief of State arose. The first Chief of State race was initially between multiple candidates; however, after a few drop-outs, two names remained on the final ballot: Maradin Sandwalker and Phymp Mindano. Both candidates had been very involved in their former governments, the Republic's restoration and the writing of the Constitution. In an extremely close election, Maradin Sandwalker was confirmed as the first Chief of State of the New Republic on Year 8, Day 121.

Maradin recognized Phymp's experience and dedication, appointing him as Minister of State and declaring him the Republic's official second-in-command. With Chief of State Sandwalker's election, and Phymp's appointment, the first Advisory Council was officially complete.

The three military commands were to be led by former members of the RA's High Command. Jax Dorvek was appointed High Marshal of Starfighter Command, Edyn Solers was made High General of the Army Command, and Atoris Ligauten filled the position of High Admiral of the Naval Command. All three of the military high command members were under the command of Chief of Military Operations Thies Windu.

On the civil side, Gawayne was appointed Minister of Culture. Owyn Darklighter was made Minister of Economic Development, and Alph Virphen became Minister of Trade and Industry. Nim Orlan continued his directorship of the Center for Rebel Intelligence, which was renamed to the Center of Republic Intelligence. Jedi Knight Uzziah Akim was appointed as High Ambassador.

Senate Elections

With the Advisory Council set and Chief of State elected, it became time for the election of the New Republic's first Senate. Thirteen sentients ran for a Senate seat in the first election. After much campaigning, where the candidates presented many different views on a number of issues, the election was held. Many New Republic members placed their votes, and when the results were in, all nine Senate seats were filled.

The first Senate was made up of Azzi Blackgate, Chrono Van Talisman, Dracul Elensar, Eli LaSalle, Jake Azzameen?, Kit Lorcan, Beauba Fettt, Van Harrad, and Wolfgang Nospe. The first Senate's official inauguration date is Year 8, Day 139.

Shortly after the election, the Senate set to work making an official set of procedures? and electing a Speaker. Wolfgang Nospe was elected the first Speaker of the Senate by his fellow Senators on Year 8, Day 169. The Senate also set to work debating many other subjects, and setting forth a variety of laws and regulations.

Completion of Dunkiphor Tax Planet

Towards the end of Year 8, the New Republic completed a massive project, the Dunkiphor tax planet. The project's primary goal was to construct hundreds of skyscrapers, to serve as homes for refugees. Over 32 million refugees, mostly aliens, were able to flee Imperial oppression to live on the ecumenopolis.

The master architects behind the planet included Gawayne, Gojin Zen, and Owyn Darklighter. Gojin Zen led the massive construction effort with the assistance of Riviera Ship Shop's Assistant Director, Zhadum Dharun. Associate Minister Zen drew from his experience while leading SoroSuub's first tax planet project, Galalyrn, which is now home to over 50 million sentient beings.

The economic plan behind the project was that the housing and many public services would initially be free. After sentient had settled in and were making a solid income to live off, they would begin to give parts of their profits to Republic, to help refund the cost of construction, and develop other planets in the future.

Beauba Fettt's Betrayal and the Death of Thies Windu

One of the issues that arose early on in the Senate was how Dark Side force users were to be handled in the Republic. Several Senators and Advisory Council members took a strong stance against having any Dark Side users in the New Republic. Some believed that the Jedi Order should be consulted on all force issues. Several Senators, including Beauba Fettt, a force user who was a self proclaimed "grey user," argued that the Constitution granted all citizens of the New Republic the choice whether or not to be a Light Side force user.

During the debate in the Senate, some people grew suspicious that Fettt was not a force sensitive at all. In an attempt to prove that Fettt wasn't a force user, Chief of Military Operations Thies Windu called the members of the newly created New Republic Security Force to the Republic's flagship, the NRS Nautilus, for a christening ceremony on Year 8 Day 159. During the ceremony, Fettt executed a plan to arrest the Chief of Military Operations. With the help of a friend, Mat Cauthon, Fettt was able to subdue High Marshal Windu, and drag him aboard his personal warship.

Fettt disappeared into Deep Space, a fugitive of the Republic. All rescue operations to try and locate Thies were unsuccessful. It was revealed a short time after that Beauba's force sensitivity was a sham created when he was SoroSuub's Director of Intelligence. It was part of a scheme to capture Galactic Empire members. Fettt's now vacant Senate seat was filled by Rhodan Flaka. Beauba Fettt changed his identity some years later and is currently known as Corvis Orion.

Appointment of Edhrikhor as CMO and Concurrent Dissolution of NRSF

Eventually, news reached the Republic that Fettt had executed Thies Windu. The official date of death is marked as Year 8 Day 315. Edhrikhor Tlakh`sar was placed in command of the New Republic Military following Thies's passing. As his first official act, Provost General Tlakh`sar awarded Jedi Master Windu with the Kalidor Crescent and the Republic Heart. Many members of the Republic, both military officers and civilians attented the ceremony onboard the NRS Nautilus.

After Edhrikhor's appointment as Chief of Military Operations, the New Republic Security Force was dissolved. Most of the members transferred to a newly created, fourth battlegroup, under the command of Vice Marshal Aiden Taan.

Chief of State Maradin Sandwalker replaced by Phymp Mindano

Following a long period of inactivity of Chief of State Sandwalker, both the Advisory Council and Senate approved a vote of no confidence. Minister of State Mindano officially took over as Interim Chief of State and immediately began planning elections.

Several Republic citizens came forth to campaign for the position. Initial candidates included Edhrikhor Tlakh`sar, Eli LaSalle, Azriel Pitot, and Wolfgang Nospe. Oilios Katastrefor entered the race a short time after the others. LaSalle and Pitot both dropped out of the running stating various reasons for withdrawal.

As campaigning was coming to an end, former SoroSuub Chancellor Ingo R. Vailis made a very controversial return. With the Republic in a difficult time, many members, mostly former SoroSuub members rallied behind Ingo, remembering his successful leadership of SoroSuub Corporation. On the other hand, many members were disappointed that Ingo was allowed to return and join in the campaigning this late into the race. Stating that he couldn't run against IRV, who he felt was the best man for the job, Edhrikhor Tlakh`sar withdrew from the race. To oppose Vailis, Nim Orlan entered the race a day later, prompting Oilios to drop out and back Nim.

When the final ballot reached the public, 3 candidates remained: Orlan, Vailis, and Nospe. When all of the votes were tallied, Vailis had defeated Orlan by a mere 5 votes. The people had spoken, and Ingo was officially the second Chief of State of the Republic.

Black Sun Proposal

When Ingo returned from his extended leave of absence, his old friend and partner, Adam A Flynn also returned. Upon his election to Chief of State, Vailis appointed Fynn his Executive Advisor, and gave him Advisory Council level security clearance. This caused much controversy, as Flynn was accused of going beyond his authority several times.

Shortly after IRV's inauguration, Flynn presented a proposal to the New Republic populace. IRV and Flynn intended to sell one of the Republic's nationalised groups, Black Sun, to Eidola Pirates Queen, Teniel Djo. The sale would include the planet of Kiffex and Black Sun's flagship, the Darkstar.

While some members sided with the Chief of State and his advisor, most of the population strongly opposed the sale. Arguments took place on all levels, with in the Senate, the Advisory Council, Republic Leadership Council (RLC), and between citizens. All of the discussions led to several resignations. Alph Virphen, Nim Orlan, Kit Lorcan, Natalis Oro, and Nov Chebot and others stepped down. As the discussion continued, Chief of State Vailis went missing. He rarely showed up for meetings, and for a period time seemed to completely vanish.

High Marshal Virphen was replaced with Dan Russ, and Director Orlan was replaced with Mandor Bg. Just a few days after his resignation, the Republic received word that Virphen has executed Samus Augill onboard his personal freighter. Augill had been captured during Operation Forging Freedom. Virphen agreed to go to court and be tried for any charges that the Republic wanted to bring against him.

The Betrayal of Amun Sokar

After Chief Executive Nov Chebot resigned his position within Republic Mining Corporation (RMC), he recommended that Amun Sokar take over as the corporation's director. Just a month after accepting the position and being given full control over all RMC assets, Sokar made a deal with the Sith, and he stole everything that he could from RMC. On Year 8 Day 328, he made off with millions worth of credits, vehicles, ships, and mines.

Sokar also took the opportunity to free a captured Dark Side Force user, Max Powers, who was being held captive onboard a RMC ship. Amun's betrayal destroyed the Republic's morale and crippled northern mining operations. Luckily, through diplomatic work, Kapryn and Edhrikor Tlakh`sar were later able to retrieve enough of the stolen assets to complete the Akrit`tar tax planet project.

Vote of No Confidence in CoS Vailis and the Elections

Just prior to Sokar's looting of RMC, a Vote of No Confidence in Chief of State Ingo R. Vailis had passed in the Senate and the Advisory Council. Both bodies had become frustrated with Ingo's unannounced leave of absence and his techniques and ideas, especially the sale of Black Sun.

With Ingo out of office, campaigning for Chief of State was opened by Minister of Culture Gawayne, Vailis's second in command, just before he passed on the position of Interim Chief of State to Minister of State Mindano.

Commodore Tal Hragon; Minister of Trade & Industry Zhadum Dharun; Diplomat David Kellar, recently returned from Deep Space; and Nim Orlan, recently returned after his resignation; all stepped forward to campaign for office. Orlan ran a campaign similar to his first one, and was generally considered the favorite.

The Black Sun Coup

Just as election week was about to begin, numerous military officers and civilian workers were surprised to find that their crew, work teams, and squadron members were no longer under their authority. They had received direct orders from Adam A Flynn, who Vailis had placed in command of the entire Republic, not to obey any orders given by their commanders and to not allow their commanders to leave their ships.

With the entire Republic on a virtual lock down, Flynn began transferring hundreds of millions of credits to his personal account, along with the deeds to numerous Mon Calamari Cruisers and Republic fighter squadrons.

As Flynn stole the Republic's assets, several Black Sun agents boarded ships and captured Republic officials. Among the most notable captures were Chief of State candidates David Kellar and Nim Orlan; Senators Chrono van Talisman and Eli LaSalle; and Jedi Master Bengro Evabri.

Black Sun agents who participated in the kidnappings included Aiden Taan, Beauba Fettt, Dracul Elensar, and Sergei Korolev. Soon after the captures took place though, Elensar had a change of heart, and released the two officers he was holding captive, Senators van Talisman and LaSalle.

After an intense week of rescue operations to secure stranded Republicans, Flynn disappeared to Black Sun, leave the New Republic back under the command of Phymp Mindano. News shortly reached the Republic that the prisoners Black Sun was holding, including Orlan and Kellar had been executed. The New Republic mourned the losses that they had suffered, but did not look back as a period of rebuilding began.

Rebuilding

Minister Mindano got to work immediately planning elections. Phymp announced his own intention to run. Chrono Van Talisman, Zeff Traner, and Edhrikhor Tlakh`sar also stepped up to announce their candidacy. In another close election, Mindano captured 43 votes and Edhrikhor captured 41 votes. Due to a recently passed Constitution amendment, a run off election would be required, to ensure that one candidate gained 50% of the total vote. In the run off election, Tlakh`sar earned 53% of the vote, pushing him into Office.

Under Edhrikor the Republic began a long period of reconstruction and rebuilding. Incom Corporation began constructing a massive shipyard complex in the Praesitlyn, to server as a main production base for building the Republic's capital ships. The Akrit`tar tax planet project also came to a close under Edhrikor's watch. During Operation NR Rehab, production teams were able to replenish the NR's fighter and cruiser supplies by numerous times over. The Senate was hard at work as well. With the completion of the Governor's Act, the New Republic was able to further their territorial development.

Tax Planet Construction: A View From the Cockpit Anonymous

Never turn down a mission. Those words are not uttered at the Academy. Nor are they in any of the required reading. One will not discover them embedded in any holocron, nor can they be found inscribed in any data solid. A soldier will never be given this command, and they will likely never be heard in any battle group. Why? Because they don't have to be repeated. These words are so deeply embedded in the New Republic soldier's psyche that it will never be necessary to order, print, or teach them. These words are the reason that calls for volunteers never last more than a few minutes in the briefing room. They are the reason that an Army officer always runs when doing a job. They are the reason that a Flight Command pilot can occasionally be found sleeping in his ship. They are the reason the Navy ensign stares motionlessly out the bridge windows for hours on end, because you never know what might happen.

It is because of these words that I didn't ask why, how, or when on the day that my commanding officer gave me the coordinates to the tax planet construction rendezvous point. I simply threw my fighter into hyperspace and got there. Get there fast and hot; do what you have to do, and get out before anyone knows you were there. This is the typical fighter pilot mission I was expecting. Needless to say, I was a bit confused and maybe even a bit disappointed when I was ordered to abandon my red hot fighter for a bulk freighter. Not a lot of skill involved there. It doesn't take a lot of that sweet, hot, cosmic fighter jock material to fly a load of raw materials back and forth with a load of builders to make cities. Never turn down a mission. The brass says it's important, so in the name of the New Republic and all that is good and holy in this galaxy, I was determined to do what I was told as best as I could. That meant flying a weaponless ship which handles like a pregnant bantha and is ten times as large. Pick up a fighter pilot flight manual, look up 'easy target,' and you'll find a picture of the bulk freighter.

The tax planet construction was a collaborative effort between civilian and military organizations. Headed by the Ministry of Culture, supplied by New Republic transport services, powered by New Republic miners and builders, and piloted by the New Republic Space Flight Command, this operation was a months-long organized endeavour with the ultimate goal of covering an entire planet in cities, shielding it, and placing orbital defence platforms about it. This meant prospecting neighbouring planets for raw materials, building mines to extract those materials, transporting those materials to the tax planet starport, distributing those materials to city locations along with builders, and start building. This ultimate goal was organized by the daily activities of the Ministry of Culture and the Space Flight Command over several months. I was but a single pilot amidst this massive effort, a single power coupling in the machinery that made this effort a success.

As a pilot in the Space Flight Command, my personal involvement in the tax planet construction began shortly after the prospecting phase was complete. The daily routine consisted of picking up builders and raw materials at the main starport located on the planet surface, transporting those builders and materials to pre-assigned city locations, and setting the builders to work on the cities based on existing blueprints. Sounds simple enough, certainly not the typical fighter pilot mission and certainly not the typical fighter pilot ship. To a fighter pilot, two people in a ship is a crowd. Now I was hauling 100 people around in a huge cavernous vessel. A vessel with its own kitchen, bathroom, and sleeping berths. This vessel didn't have a cockpit, it had an entire bridge. This was a flying apartment complex with its own built in hangar!

About a dozen pilots were assigned to this mission. The general plan was to assign a specific section of one or more cities to each pilot, who would be responsible for building these assigned sections. For example, one pilot might be assigned to build the power generators and fountains for a dozen cities. This way, the materials list on a specific freighter could be simplified, and cities were then built in a modular fashion. Gojin Zen, the Minister of Culture, would provide the organization and leadership, and the pilots in my battle groups would ferry the materials and builders back and forth. On occasion, the starport would need to be replenished with raw materials, so a pilot would be ordered to travel to a mine on another planet to retrieve these materials.

After acquiring the raw materials, the planet construction itself took several months. Construction was fairly routine: travel to the starport, get the materials and builders, go to the site, and begin building. A single round trip in a bulk freighter to drop off builders and return could take a full day. Two full trips could be made in a day if the pilot worked hard. Tell this to another pilot, and he'd feel sorry for you. However, passing time on the bulk freighter with up to 100 builders of various races had its advantages. Learning that it is possible to cheat at sabbac, tasting Ithorian cuisine, developing an appreciation for Bith practical jokes, learning Wookie, and listening to Barabel classical music all helped to pass the time. I learned that, while a bulk freighter is rated to hold 7,142 cubic meters of meleenium, one could actually transport 7,143 cubic meters if one sat on a cubic meter in the bridge. I found that the best way to move cross-planet wasn't always on the surface. Never turn down a mission, and this mission was teaching me new things about how the New Republic works. Maybe the flying proficiency wasn't the usual high-speed quality that I was used to, but the machinery and people that made the New Republic the New Republic stood out in vivid color.

After construction of the city, the freighters were ordered into orbit with loads of materials which were used to construct Golan II defense platforms. This effort was also coordinated in that two freighters were necessary to construct a single platform. Timing and organization were important to the success of this phase of the mission.

Builders, pilots, and civilian leaders all worked together to make this planet happen, and about one month before the election of Zeff Traner as Chief-of-State, I said goodbye to my newfound friends on the bulk freighter and boarded my X-wing. I was awarded the Republic Readiness medal for my work in this mission, and the entire team was given the Operational Service Ribbon. As a soldier in the New Republic, I am sworn to protect the freedom and principles of the New Republic. However, one does not have to be a soldier to love and serve the New Republic and what it stands for. Pilots, leaders, builders, miners, and even dirt haulers performed their jobs perfectly for the good the New Republic. The New Republic is not a planet or group of planets. It is the people that make it up and do their jobs with the greatest of perfection, no matter what. Never turn down a mission!

Expanding the Galactic Alliance and Leadership Changes

One of High Ambassador Jake Azzameen's key objectives when he took over for Uzziah Akim was to expand the Galactic Alliance. After working very closely with the Falleen Federation, Ambassador Azzameen was extremely pleased to announce the expansion of the Alliance to include the Triumvirate Coalition, the Red Star Alliance, and the Jedi Order.

The New Republic was surprised when Phymp Mindano resigned his post as Minister of State. Phymp's service record went back nearly 9 years, including the position of Supreme Commander of the Rebel Alliance. He was replaced by High Admiral Kapryn, who was already serving on the Advisory Council as Chief of Naval Command. A short time later, Zeff Traner, the former Minister of Trade and Industry who had resigned after the controversial discussion about the sale of Incom Corporation, returned. Traner was appointed Chief Administrator of Employment and immediately was back into the swing of things.

Betrayals and Deaths

When Tomra Kotar became leader of Toskan Industries, Altomac Whiskers was appointed leader of Astralwerks Engineering. Shortly after the change, both leaders looted their factions, and Kotar attempted to arrest Jedi Master High Admiral Eli LaSalle. In the fight, Tomra failed and the former Senator LaSalle was able to apprehend him, but not before Kotar sent the ship via hyperspace towards Black Sun space.

When the ship arrived, Black Sun member, Sith Jett Blackheart boarded and arrested the Jedi Master after a lengthy duel. Blackheart later killed Eli and kept the restrained Tomra with him. The New Republic would later recover Tomra and put him on trial.

Around the same time, Black Sun also attacked one of the Republic's private sector companies, Offworld Mining Corporation. We have asked Andre Gualdieri to tell us about the event:

Oilios Katastrefor was a NR senator and a strong defendant of freedom. He led several teams in battle against NR enemies to free the oppressed population and was awarded numerous ribbons due to heroic action on the battle field. Thanks to his work and bravery, he collected many friends on NR, people that followed him when he decided to be a business man. Oilios managed to acquire a mining company named Offworld Mining Corporation, which had a small operation on Ku'bakai System, Calaron Sector. With a wide vision and bold decisions, Oilios made OMC grow to a point that he applied to his company be recognized as part of the Private Sector Agreement with the New Republic, giving his employees NR citizenship and full rights.

But also his part on NR battles made him collect enemies as well. Especially in the criminal organization Black Sun. The criminals managed to seduce OMC CEO, Mott Skyblade, to whom Oilios Katastrefor trusted the future of his company. Oilios was leading a prospection team on the Jerijador system when Mott saw the opportunity to act. Knowing that Oilios dedication to his work was making him tired, Mott gave OMC employees several tasks to keep them busy while he, secretly, flew to the iced planet Gondyn on Jerijador arriving there during the night. Mott quietly entered Oilios vehicle and kidnapped him, leaving Oilios onboard an YV-666 Black Sun ship. He managed to avoid capture long enough to change OMC access codes, protecting the company from Black Sun takeover. He briefly contacted his protégé in OMC, that is me, promoting me to CEO and begging me to make sure all OMC employees were safe from the fury of Mott Skyblade. The latter managed to stole a handful of ships and all OMC credits just seconds before having his access codes removed.

The circumstances of his death were never cleared, it is only known through his contact with me [Andre] that he fought the dark Jedi Ingo R. Vailis and also Nicholas Haines, who managed to subdue Oilios after days of combat. OMC's new CEO promoted his wingman Twiggy Samp and Mambo Starr to Directors, the two people he trusted his life, so the three of them would honor Oilios Katastrefor name and history, by making OMC an important Mining supplier and helping the Republic that Oilios gave his life to protect. After a few days, they managed to contact Mott Skyblade, who said he regret ed the outcome of his actions and gave back to OMC the credits and ships he stole.

Election of Zeff Traner

When Edhrikhor's term as Chief of State came to an end, he decided not to run for reelection. A very intense campaign was run between Zeff Traner and CRI Director, Mandor Bg. Both candidates had different stances of many issues. After the votes were all tallied, it was confirmed that Traner was the Republic's new Chief of State on Year 10 Day 12.

Several changes in the Advisory Council took place at the time of Traner's inauguration. High Ambassador Jake Azzameen and High General Edyn Solers both stepped down and were replaced with Owen von Ismay and Wolfgang Nospe respectively. Minister of State Kapryn was made the Republic's official second in command. CRI Director Mandor Bg also resigned his position and was replaced by Deputy Director Dan Neo.

Under Traner's leadership, important changes in several sectors took place. Regarding the economy, the tax planet at Belecalaryn was completed, wages were increased, and the Trade Bursary programme was reopened for the NR citizens. However, the most impressive action was the mergers of different but similar companies, carried out to streamline the processes and increase the level of cooperation among all the parties involved. This led to a lot of changes in the AC, Ministers, and Associate Ministers. A new position was also created: the Executive Employment Administrator. Moreover, CRI renovated its inner structure.

Regarding the military, the reorganization involved mainly the Army, and a new Battlegroup was created.

Traner's administration saw also the looting of Astralwerks Engineering and its renewed management under the name of Noga-Ta Industries, an unfortunate event balanced by the quick response and support to one of the GA members, The Antarian Rangers struck by the GE.

Like his predecessor, Zeff Traner completed a full term as CoS, and did not seek reelection.

Creation of the Justice Department

In the beginning of Year 10, the NR citizens started discussing on the possible benefits of having a department dedicated to deal with judicial matters. Such a new "power body" seemed necessary after the Senate had been handling trials to no one's satisfaction. The strongest point against the fact of the Senate administering justice was that Senators were - and are - directly-elected representatives. The important consequence to this, is that the popular vote weighted too much on delicate issues, where popularity must be set aside and objectivity is of paramount importance. In other words, there could have been the risk of Senators not judging according to what the trial exposed, but according to what decision could bring the most popularity, and therefore votes. In addition to these opinions, it did happen that some people managed to successfully manipulate trials through the Senate. The following steps were therefore to create a Justice Department based on legislation, and to charge the Minister of State to set up an Associate Minister for just these purposes. After this was achieved in June of Year 10, the JD started its task by writing and devising new procedures and new legislation, when appropriate.

Fifth Chief of State Election

The current Chief of State, Zeff Traner, officially announced he would not be running for re-election. The Republic is yet to have a leader run for a second term in office, the reason for which CoS Traner alluded to, stating: "While I have enjoyed my time as Chief of State, it is literally the most trying job in the Galaxy." He went on to advise citizens to consider running, but to be sure they give "much thought and meditation before making such a decision."

The campaign was marked by the astounding personalities involved. All four candidates have served in the New Republic since the galaxy-changing merger between the Rebel Alliance and the SoroSuub Corporation with excellence in their fields. Senator Aves Sunfell, Colonel Jake Azzameen, Minister of Culture Nat Dues & Chief of Military Operations Kapryn LaSalle. The voting system was renovated in order to increase the security and trust in the electoral system.

"Holding the rank of Marshal within the Republic's famous Starfighter Command, Senator Sunfell stood for election in the early Year 10 Senate elections and has since been working in the Republic's legislative body in addition to his military duties. If elected, he hopes to provide a stable governing body, increase revenue and production capacities for both military and civilian fleets as well as reach out more to foreign nations."

"Colonel Jake Azzameen has an extensive background among the NR and her allies. A former Senator and High Ambassador, he now works within the Army Command, intending to put primary focus on the Empire. Key plans include developing the newly formed Justice Department, reorganising military forces as well as improving foreign relations and security."

"Currently tasked with developing the territories of the Republic, Minister Dues has also served on the Senate in days past. His main goals as CoS would include developing the infrastructure, defences and production capacities of the Republic's territories as well as improving recruitment and employment opportunities for citizens."

"Having served as the Republic's Chief of Military Operations and second-in-command for the past year, High Admiral LaSalle had also held the office of Minister of State prior to that. He intends to continue with plans for warship production, consolidate Republic territories, streamline government procedures and establish firmer relations with neutral factions."

After the first voting, none of the candidates reached more than 50% of the votes, therefore a run-off between Aves Sunfell and Jake Azzameen took place. On Year 11 Day 6 the Chief of State-elect resulted Aves Sunfell. (extracted by GNS: "New Republic Chief of State Elections Underway" by Cheda Quche)

Aves Sunfell Administration

Under Sunfell's leadership, the NR experienced a period of stability and constant growth.

The Senate proposed several amendments to the Constitution, revised laws and acts and tried to clarify and streamline any loops or unclear legislation.

Following the breakthrough in ship design research, the NR was able to start a mass production of MC80 Home One-class Star Cruisers, and the military High Command devised new strategies to exploit this ultimate addition to their fleets. SFC Command introduced new rank definitions, more appropriate to the effective role of the officers. On the war front, GE attacked in the N'Zoth and Tatooine systems, while Shoki Shoen struck in Geedon system. However, the NR response was immediate and all the enemy forces soon left empty-handed. On the other hand, the NR took control of the Quelii system from the evil Black Sun, participated in the liberation of several planets (e.g. Malgolfin and Sacorria).

Sunfell's administration saw also the birth of a force sensitive group within the NR. The "Knights of the Republic." After long debates, it was decided that such a group would have more advantages rather than disadvantages, and Ghon Webb was appointed as supervisor of all matters related to force sensitivity within the NR and the Knights.

The Diplomacy Command made improvements at galactic level. It maintained relations with the NR allies and reached out to a much wider base of groups in the galaxy to establish contact and seek opportunities for cooperation.

Within the GA, the NR helped Triumvirate Coalition secure control of planets within their territory as well as aiding the Krath Dynasty in their home Sector, Kathol, for the same purpose. Falleen Federation and Ailon Nova Guard helped the NR securing several planets.

Several improvements in the civil side were also made. A new tax planet was developed, while JMC set up and opened a new South Sales Depot. The NR at large cooperated on large-scale projects regarding the increase of demographic population and provision of minimal sustainability to every city in the galaxy.

The New Republic News Service (NRNS) started its publications with a brand new staff.

Due to a galaxy-wide agreed decision, all hidden systems in the galaxy were disclosed to the public, as a first step towards a complete reorganization of the sectors.

Also, the DCRI Evan Traner together with the Jedi Order set up a joint operation to arrest Salvor Higgs, who was responsible for looting of the RA faction.

On the less happy side, some members of the NR left due to discontent and set up their own separate organization, Alliance Special Operations, to continue the fight against the Empire in their own way. A member of Black Sun, Elix Solaris, was successful in killing the leader of Merr-Sonn Technologies.

Like his predecessors, Aves Sunfell completed a full term as CoS, and did not seek reelection.

Sixth Chief of State Election

At the end of his term, Chief of State Aves Sunfell officially announced he would not be running for re-election. The candidates for the new CoS campaign were initially Nat Dues - who was also a candidate in the past elections - and Taka Aioko, current Minister of State, at his first candidacy.

However, during the campaing Nat Dues withdrew his candidature, and it seemed that Mr. Aioko was to run alone, when Jedi Knight Ghon Webb stood for election.

Nat Dues, former Minister of Culture and current Senator, allegedly resigned in favour of the high-caliber position of Minister Aioko because he didn't feel right running against such an excellent candidate for Chief of State.

Jedi Knight and current Senator Ghon Webb, on the other hand, entered the voting arena because he felt that for the ideals of democracy the NR represents in the whole galaxy, the people of the NR deserved a choice. He therefore put himself forward as another option to be Chief of State.

Minister Taka Aioko had much experience in the civil sectors, spending time as CEO of many nationalised factions before being appointed MoS.

On Year 12 Day 3 the Chief of State-elect resulted Taka Aioko, with 85% of the votes, and on Day 17 he was officially appointed.

Leader and Looter of JMC

JUGANOTH Mining Corporation was shaken from its inner core on Day 142 of Year 12, when its current leader, Morden Veritas, decided to become a common criminal and looted the faction for personal gains.

Morden Veritas, who had proved himself a hard worker and trustworhy sentient till then, managed to steal a large amount of raw materials, credits, and facilities. The theft was speculated to total in the billions credits. Reportedly, this robbery was not connected to any criminal organisation.

As a result of this action, JMC closed public sales and diverted the remaining stocks exclusively for the NR public needs. Also, Morden Veritas scammed galactic citizens by selling stolen assets deliberately misleading other traders over the status and accessibility of the stolen items.

The ensuing debates among the population on the looting of one of the biggest nationalised factions led to the decision to issue an advisory notice to the galactic trading community regarding the purchase and ownership of stolen property. On Day 200, the NRI together with the RDC confirmed that all access requests related to stolen goods would be denied and that under the Criminal Code possessing or trafficking items through the black market should be punishable by anything from a heavy fine to a custodial sentence. All restricted Republic technology, most notably military equipment and ships, found in traders lounges and marketplaces across the galaxy were to be considered as stolen property and therefore subject to the same penalties.

JMC re-opened public sales some months after the looting, after having repleted their warehouses.

Taka Aioko Administration

The year under Aioko's term was full of events that involved not only the NR but also the galaxy.

Soon after Taka's installation in office, the GE changed its Emperor and the new management was successful in taking over Ailon Nova Guard, its 40 planets and the hundreds of shipyards. It was not a military action from the Empire but a high-level agreement, and some said that the cause was in the bad relations among the members of the Galactic Alliance. During the same period, Tresario Star Kindom decided to break away from the Falleen Federation. Moreover, The Antarian Rangers were dissolved by Gand, and all these concurrent actions were indeed a symptom that something was not going well in the GA.
The NR CoS Taka Aioko was selected as the fourth Secretary-General of the Galactic Alliance on Year 12 Day 62, following Jude Vatz. He was the first Secretary-General from the New Republic. Regarding the Galactic Alliance, the members made some deep reforms and came up with a new treaty. Also, a new way of work was devised, with people dedicated regularly to the GA through the creation of committees.

The NR diplomacy had long negotiations with the Rogue Squadron to have them acknowledge that most cities in the moon Duroon III supported the New Republic. At the end of Taka's term, the NR diplomacy managed to acquire about 200 cities from multiple parties in the NR territory, contributing to give control and to calm the discontent in several systems.
Also the territorial disputes with the Old Republic were resolved in a peaceful manner.

The NR internal affairs were thriving with activity as well.
All the production NATs opened for public sales while the internal production was kept steady. Three more ecumenopoleis were developed and the planet Shocore, in the Vyzerod system, became a literal symbol of freedom for the galaxy thanks to the shape of the dwellings as seen from the orbit.
Production of military ships was also maximised. Noga-ta Industries was renamed taking the name of the famous TransGalMeg, with the aim to research new technologies in the future. The Knights of the Republic changed its shape and structure, with a three-member Council and a ranking system. The organization chart of the NR was changed when the Academy and Recruitment departments were merged together (still under the Ministry of State), and the Grand Historian office was moved under the aegis of the Ministry of State. The PSAs Baobab Merchant Fleet and Arkanian Royal Engineers bought the Fulban system. This helped fulfilling one of their goals, allowed them to maintain their development without selling NR planets or forming monopolies in the Republican territory.
As for the bad news, the then leader of Juganoth Mining Corporation, Morden Veritas, looted the company and betrayed many friends. He then went rogue and tried to sell the stolen assets, triggering a galactic warning from the NR that cautioned to block access to anyone who had knowingly or unknowingly dealt with Veritas. The damage caused by this looting was significant, and the efforts made to restore the mining operations across the whole NR territory lasted many months.

On the war front, the Galactic Empire mounted a rescue operation to free an imprisoned Moff, but the NR managed to thwart the operation at the last minute.
The Aracelezog planet in the Praesitlyn system was attacked by Vee Null, with the help of Solar Defense Agency and Critical Mass Mining. Vee Null had bought the cities Morden Veritas stole from JMC. However the NR forces acted so quickly that this attempt didn't have any chances. The NR had no losses and Vee's commanders cowardly fled soon after a big portion of their forces was arrested by the NR officers. Instead, the NR led several successful operations against the Eidola pirates and Black Sun crime syndicate. A military-civil joint operation took place to liberate Galus and Hararyn planets from Eidola.
In addition to that, a small group of commandos attacked a Black Sun base on planet Adbauniac and made possible an invasion to liberate the subjugated people from the crime syndicate.
The last few months of Aioko's mandate were then focused to planetary security, and this massive effort was carried out by many different groups within the New Republic.

Taka Aioko was the second CoS to be found force-sensitive during his term and also the very first CoS to run for a second term.

Seventh Chief of State Election

At the end of his term, Chief of State Taka Aioko officially announced he would be running for re-election. Aioko's campaign was based on continuing some ongoing projects such as the development of the Galactic Alliance, planetary shielding, and the completion of ecumenopoleis. Future projects included proposing some changes for a reform that would simplify the Constitution or cutting unnecessary beaurocracy, delegating more and growing a solid leadership in order to avoid significant turnovers and to reach a long-term stability.

The CoS campaign ran without any other opposing candidate for four days, then a second candidate appeared and eventually a third candidate put his step ahead after a week from the campaign opening. The second and third candidates were respectively Geran Nightshadow and Raven Morrow, both at their first candidacy.

Geran Nightshadow, a SFC officer and Vice Pro Consul in RDC, was also involved with running the New Republic News Service as well as the all-volunteer group ARGH. He proposed himself because he wanted to have some good competition in this race and to bring fresh ideas. He was aiming at a greater unity in the GA, with a closer cooperation between all its members. Other important points of his campaign was the augmented recognition given to the hard workers both in the civil and military sectors, a better transparency between NRI and the NR citizenry still keeping security matters in high regard, and more efforts toward living a life that would be also fun and not only work.

Raven Morrow, started his career in the NR several months ago in Toskan Industries, and after many changes among NATs, he ended up becoming Assistant Director of Logistics in Republic Medical. He was not known by many at that time, since he had led very little public life before deciding to run for CoS.

His mandate would have been focused on developing relationships in order to improve the Republic by becoming more of a closer family.

On Year 13 Day 3 the Chief of State-elect resulted Taka Aioko, with 76% of the votes, and on Day 17 he was officially appointed for his second term.

During his tenure, he initiated a large scale project to improve the New Republic's economy due to changes in tax laws. He appointed the current Minister of State, Gojin Zen, as the projects manager. Lukastar ordered a halt in production in order to focus all available hands at city design and construction. Around 1500 such cities were planned, but it is unknown how many came to fruition in the manner that was mapped out.
